Indonesia only offers religious ceremonies, so it is important that both of you belong to one of the following religions:
  • Protestantism
  • Islam
  • Hinduism
  • Buddhism

Ideally, it will be easier if you are both of the same religion. However, if one of you is Protestant and the other Catholic, you will need to sign an affidavit in resort that your ceremony will be conducted by a Protestant Minister. Please note that aside from the details below, additional information may be required for some religions.

You will need:
  • Full 10 year British passport
  • Original birth certificate
  • Original decree absolute (if divorced)
  • Original death certificates (if widowed)
  • Original adoption certificate (if adopted)
  • Original deed poll notice (if changed name)
  • Certificate of no impediment (as above – this can take up to 21 days)

You will need to be:
  • At the resort for five days before your wedding.
  • Staying at the resort for at least 10 days overall.
  • Over 19 years of age.

Further information:
  • To marry in Indonesia, you must visit the local British Consulate in the area where you wish to marry. For example, to marry in Bali, it is the British Consulate in Denpasar (only available to British passport holders)
  • Couples are now required to obtain an original Certificate of no Impediment, issued by their local Registry Office (see Legal Documents). In Bali, for example, this certificate will be endorsed by the British Embassy and costs about £45 to be paid in local currency
  • An affidavit will be completed in resort at a cost of £120 per person.

After The Wedding:
  • Please ensure that, if your marriage certificate is written in Indonesian, you either have your translated into English by a sworn and authorized English translator in Indonesia or take it to the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in London where the documents can also be translated.
  • Once this is done, please do not forget to register your marriage at your local Registry Office back at home.
