You will need:
  • Both original birth certificates.
  • Both valid, 10 year passports.
  • The appropriate, original death certificate if either party has been previously widowed.
  • The appropriate, original decree absolute if either party has been previously divorced.
  • A sworn affidavit signed and stamped by a Public Notary or a Solicitor, indicating that you are single and free to marry.
  • Two or more witnesses with identification neither of whom are related to you.
 
You will need to be:
  • Over the age of 16.
 
Further Information:
  • You will need to submit the above paperwork to the Oficialio del Estado Civil (Civil Registry Office) in order to receive your marriage license. 
  • All documents must be translated into Spanish and certified as true copies of the original by the Embassy. This can be done in situ for a fee of approximately £160 per document. Translations will be processed in 7 working days. In emergencies, documents can be processed within 4 days at a cost of £10. You will need to provide a Special Delivery envelope. 
  • If you wish to have a religious ceremony please note that although ceremonies in any denomination are entirely legal, only the Roman Catholic Church can register marriages on your behalf. If you wish to have a ceremony in another religious denomination this can be organised but both of you will need to go to the Civil Registry Office to legalise your marriage.
  • Fees payable are: 
  • If both of you are foreigners who are not residents and are marrying in the Civil Registry Office: RD$ 20,000
  • If both of you are foreigners who are not residents and are marrying outside of the Civil Registry Office: RD$ 20,000
  • If one of you is a foreigner who is not a resident and you are marrying in the Civil Registry Office: RD$ 10,000
  • If one of you is a foreigner who is not a resident and you are marrying outside of the Civil Registry Office: RD$ 15,000
  • If you are both foreigners in residence and are marrying in the Civil Registry Office: RD$ 3,000
  • If you are both foreigners in residence and are marrying outside of the Civil Registry Office: RD$ 10,000

  • Once you are married, it is recommended that you make a record of your marriage at your local Foreign Office. To do this you will need to translate your Marriage Certificate into English.
