Types of Wedding

The Barceló Bávaro Beach Resort offer three kinds of wedding:
  • Legal, civil weddings.

These are legal ceremonies performed on resort by a judge from the City Hall. They cannot take place on Sundays or on public holidays. The ceremonies are held in Spanish and translated. Please see below and click HERE to be taken to our page concerning legalities for weddings in the Dominican Republic for further information regarding what you will need to marry legally.

  • Symbolic blessings or vow renewals.

These are unofficial ceremonies with a non-denominational minister or a Justice of the Peace. They can be held at any date or time except for Sundays or Bank Holidays. You do not need to provide the information that is required for legal weddings. However, note that it is helpful to be married prior to having one of these ceremonies. Many couples find marrying in their country of origin prior to their symbolic blessing is the best option.

  • Catholic weddings.

Catholic weddings are available Monday through Saturday (not Sundays) - dates and times are subject to confirmation by the priest. The ceremony will be held inside the Catholic Church on resort and can be performed in Spanish, English or French. Contact the Barceló Bávaro Beach Resort via our website for details regarding the documentation you will need to send to the Diosese of Altagracia - this will need to be sent no later than two months before the wedding date. Note that any couple wishing to have a Catholic ceremony on resort will need to contact their local parish priest to begin the preparation for their wedding.

Documents Required for Legal Ceremonies at Resort

  • Original copies of a Single Status Affidavit (one each), notarised at your place of residence. These must show your names as they appear on your passport. You will need to obtain an apostille for the notary's signature. If the same notary signs both forms then one apostille will be fine. If you are in the UK you can click HERE for information on how to get documents legalised and HERE for how to verify apostilles.
  • Original birth certificates for both the bride and groom. If parents names aren't shown on the birth certificates you will need to inform the hotel of them separately.
  • Photocopies of both passports (the picture/information page). If passports are not ready to be sent on time with your documents photocopies of your driver's licenses can be sent instead.
  • If relevant, two copies of a notarised and apostilled divorce decree or a death certificate if one of you has been previously widowed.

Please see our page on Wedding Legalities in the Dominican Republic for a full list of details.
